OUR INITIATIVES

Care4Mumbai

Keeping Seasaga’s CSR Policies in mind, our Managing Director, Mr. M.K. Navas, formed Care4Mumbai. This initiative was formed with several like-minded personalities in April 2020 with the motto that no single person in Mumbai should suffer without food or essential life support medicines during the covid pandemic. Since its inception, Care4Mumbai was successfully able to distribute 15kg Grocery Kits to more than 11820 Families across Mumbai and its outskirts. Life support medicines were provided to several individuals who didn’t have the means to purchase the necessary medicines due to their grave financial situation without income and job loss. This initiative was further continued in order to provide financial support for the treatment of critical ailments as
well. Support was also given to patients from across the country who live on the roads abutting Tata Memorial Cancer Centre.

Ratnagiri and Chiplun Floods

The Ratnagiri and Chiplun floods of 2021 were caused by the overflowing of the Vashishti and other rivers due to the heavy rainfall in the Konkan region of Maharashtra, India. Despite the efforts of the authorities, more than 200 people lost their lives in the floods, and many more were displaced from their homes. The floods also caused extensive damage to crops and infrastructure, including roads, bridges, and power lines. Ratnagiri and Chiplun seafood docks are important facilities for the fishing industry in the Konkan region. Thus, it became the responsibility of Seasaga to take care of the area where we have been procuring our raw materials for years.
Seasaga responded quickly to the disaster, deploying rescue teams and relief supplies to the affected areas. With the help of local volunteers, we also played a key role in assisting with the evacuation of residents and providing aid to those affected by the floods. The Ratnagiri and Chiplun floods of 2021 served as a stark reminder of the growing risks associated with extreme weather events, and the need for continued investment in disaster preparedness and response measures.

2018 Kerala Floods

Kerala experienced a disaster of gigantic proportions with the flood of August 2018. Weathermen have said it is the biggest to have hit the State. The disaster that struck in the middle of August changed the ecosystem, both on land and water, which adversely affected the bioresources (bio-diversity), livelihood, and capital wealth (Infrastructure). While 483 human lives and thousands of livestock were lost, the disaster incurred immense losses to the State’s infrastructure, as many roads, bridges, and thousands of houses were damaged /washed away. Large quantities of agricultural produce were lost putting the livelihood of farmers at risk. Since our directors are deeply attached to their birthplace, they could not sit idle during this crisis. More than 400,000 people had lost their property and were barely surviving. As a result of Seasaga’s quick response, two truckloads of grocery supplies were sent to the flood- affected areas. As a further effort to help the flood-affected people, Seasaga also donated to the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund.

PM Cares

The PM CARES Fund (Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund) was a public charitable trust established in India in March 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The fund was intended to support the government’s efforts to combat the pandemic and provide relief to those affected by it. The fund was managed by a board of trustees, which includes the Prime Minister of India as its chairman. Seasaga contributed to the PM Care fund keeping in mind the seriousness of the pandemic and realizing that financial support is necessary for critical activities like providing personal protective equipment and medical supplies, funding research and development of vaccines and treatments and providing financial assistance to those affected by the pandemic other than helping out the underprivileged section of the society.
